June 9th (lunar calendar)

It was a scorching hot day, just like yesterday.

Today I went to Shinjuku for the first time in a long time.

Shinjuku is a town I love and am familiar with, so much so that I could call it my hometown.

My plan was to watch a movie and do some shopping at Isetan department store.

My plan was to watch a movie in the morning, have lunch, and shop in the afternoon, but I ended up spending more time than I expected at the department store, which I hadn't been to in a long time.

But it was a fun day.

The movie theater was "Tohos Cinema Shinjuku" near Kabuki-gai.

It was a movie theater where Godzilla was making an appearance.

There were a lot of people in Shinjuku, mainly young people.

Can you see Godzilla?

The building that houses the movie theater also doubles as a hotel, and apparently you can get a good view of Godzilla from some hotel rooms.

As an aside, one of our staff members, P, loves the movie "Godzilla."

I've seen it over 30 times, and I can recite my favorite lines fluently, but when we watch it together, it's unbearably noisy.

That Godzilla. It is famous for being played by the kyogen actor Nomura Mansai.

The movie I saw today (I don't mind telling you about this one) Eh, I don't want to know, no, I'll tell you...

I went to see it because I liked the title and because it was directed by Hosoda Mamoru.

I've seen a lot of Hosoda Mamoru's works, but today's one was okay.

There is a film that could be called a greeting film, not a greeting phrase, for Walt Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," and I thought the director himself must have been fully conscious of that when he made it, but hmm, I wonder...

Of Hosoda's works, I like "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" the most, followed by "Summer Wars."

This film, like "Summer Wars," features the emergence of the real world and the virtual world, and the contrast between them was interesting. It also shows the fear and charm of social media, or rather, it's better to say that the fear is strong, but for people of my generation who are of an analogue generation, it seems like an incredibly uncontrollable system, and I wonder what the world is going to be like. I'm not a little anxious, but I guess it's okay, because I don't know, so I don't know.

The girls drawn by Director Hosoda are a little more mature than those drawn by Hayao Miyazaki, and I like them because they have a carefree nature.

Of course, I like Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, and Chihiro, too...

At the cinema before the screening.

We were asked to sit every other chair, so we could watch the movie at our leisure.

It seems to be a popular movie, so there were quite a lot of people there.

After watching the movie, I went to the nearby Isetan department store and stopped by to buy a fountain pen for Mana Kisaragi, who received the "Tanaka Hiroaki Award."

While listening to the explanations of the store clerk, I searched for something that would fit Kisaragi Mana's image and be easy to use.

In the end, I found something very nice, so I bought it.

I felt somewhat relieved.

I went to the tableware section and bought two glasses.

In fact, the other day, I broke two glasses that I like and find easy to use.

One was when I was putting it away, and the other was when my hand slipped while I was drinking awamori and soda.

So, while I was in the department store, I bought two more.

I bought a Baccarat glass. Unfortunately, I didn't, and instead bought something very simple, light, and practical, at a price that I, a careless person, wouldn't mind breaking again.

I just made another awamori and soda and drank with it.

If I had to say, I would have preferred the previous glass (which was handmade), but I can't be greedy. Right?

It was delicious. . .

No advertisements, no stores, just an empty Shinjuku underground mall.

I wonder if the Olympics will really go ahead.

It was after watching the film that I learned that there had been a report that Taiwanese actress Audrey Tang had declined to come to Japan.
